ITANAGAR, FEB 2 : In a vibrant display of environmental consciousness, the Botanical Survey of India (BSI), Arunachal Pradesh Regional Centre (APRC) here at Itanagar on Friday marked World Wetlands Day. Officials and scientists embarked on a mission to educate and engage young minds, visiting two schools in Itanagar Zion Kids School and Bunny’s Fantasy World School.

The day long program unfolded with an enthusiastic participation of over 40 students at Zion Kids School, where they immersed themselves in a drawing competition themed around wetland conservation. Their budding artistic talents blossomed as they captured the essence of these vital ecosystems on paper.

Adding a solemn touch to the occasion, BSI-APRC, Head Dr. V.K. Rawat administered of the “Wetland Mitra Pledge.” This pledge served as a powerful symbol of commitment, binding the students to the cause of protecting these precious natural resources.

The BSI-APRC’s initiative transcended mere awareness creation. By engaging young minds through interactive activities like the drawing competition, the event sowed the seeds of environmental responsibility in the hearts of future generations. It instilled in them a deep appreciation for the crucial role wetlands play in maintaining ecological balance and supporting diverse life forms.

Expressing his satisfaction with the event’s outcome, Dr. Rawat stated, “Wetlands are the lifeblood of our planet, and their conservation is paramount. By reaching out to young minds, we hope to empower them to become stewards of the environment, ensuring a sustainable future for all.”

The BSI-APRC’s World Wetlands Day celebration serves as a commendable example of how environmental organizations can effectively engage with the community, particularly the younger generation, to foster a culture of environmental consciousness and action. It is a call to action, urging all individuals to play their part in protecting these irreplaceable ecosystems for the benefit of present and future generations.
