APCC Calls for CBI and NIA Probe into MLA Killings, Demands Improved Security Measures

In a press conference on Monday, the Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) strongly advocated for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and National Investigation Agency (NIA) level probe into the alleged repeated killing of Tirap district’s former Congress MLA Yumsen Matey and NPP MLA Tirong Aboh on 21 May 2019. APCC spokesperson Zirdi Kadu expressed deep concern over the recent abduction of village headman Chopku Gangsa and GB Chijgsan Wangham on November 18, blaming a faction of NSCN (K-YA) in Longding district.

Kadu criticized the state government’s failure to safeguard the lives of leaders and protect them from abduction and extortion, citing a breakdown in the effectiveness of the law and order machinery. Calling for police security for all aspiring candidates in the upcoming general election, Kadu urged the immediate development of a robust mechanism to combat criminal activities and ensure the swift punishment of culprits.

While the state police have initiated an investigation into the alleged killing of the former MLA, APCC emphasized the duty of the union government to safeguard Arunachal residents at an international level. The Congress party called for the deployment of additional forces at the Indo-Myanmar border to closely monitor insurgency influx, emphasizing the need for a stringent approach to maintain regional security.
