AAPSU staged a statewide protest demanding draft proposal on the off-spring issue.

ITANAGAR, The All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) on Tuesday staged a statewide protest rally against the state government for inordinate delay in bringing out the draft proposal on the “Off-spring” issue.

Here in state capital thousand of students from various students organization, students union of various colleges, university and district students union carried out protest in capital complex.The protest rally took place from Akashdeep to IG Park here holding play cards, banners and was shouting slogans and demanding immediate action from the state government.

The federating units of the AAPSU also staged protest rally across the state which was followed with sit-in dharna outside the Office of Deputy Commissioner in all districts of the state.

 “AAPSU is organizing this protest rally and sit-in dharna in all districts of the state to register strong protest against the state government’s lackadaisical attitude towards the ‘Offspring’ issue”, said AAPSU general secretary Tobom Dai, addressing the gathering.

Dai said that the union takes serious exception to the lackadaisical attitude, inordinate delay and delaying tactics adopted by the nodal agency and joint high power committee in coming out with a draft form of the proposed legislation on the “Offspring” issue as demanded by the Union since 2018.

Terming the issue as a disease which is living within the system, AAPSU GS urged the public to support the Union while stating that the Union will succeed in finding a logical conclusion to the issue.

Demanding for immediate release of preliminary draft on the issue by 8 October 2021, Dai said, “This protest rally is a first phase and like an awareness to the general masses including the state government and if government fails to address our demand, there will be many consequences for which the Department of SJETA, the state government and the chairman of high power committee will be held responsible.

AAPSU President Hawa bagang said that this protest is a signal for the committee, department and state government and they should work in the greater interest for the indigenous communities of the state. The shifting date of the committee is beyond understanding and the state government should come clear or else we will hit the street and other forms of democratic movement to press the demand in the greater interest of the indigenous people of the state. We will wait and watch the next sitting of the committee and their action and if the action remains the same like previous we may continue our democratic movement till our demand is met. Bagang added.

ANSU President Nabam Dodum, ANYA President Byabang Joram emphasized that the demand raised by the AAPSU is genuine and we are also supporting the premier students organization and continue to extend support for the demand. The state government should also immediately resolve the issue by issuing necessary formalities by the committee constituted and the SJETA department. We are for the welfare and greater interest of the indigenous people of the state and nothing more than that we are demanding. The  duo said.

Several former students and youth leaders among others also attended the protest rally.
