Tirap Police’s Successful Raid Results in Multiple Arrests and Drug Seizures

Khonsa, 18th July: In an ongoing effort to combat the drug menace, Tirap Police conducted a surprise raid based on reliable information regarding possession and trafficking of narcotic substances. Led by DySP (HQ) Togum Gongo, along with SI B Mossang and other officers and officials of Khonsa PS, the operation took place on 16th July 2023. The raid targeted the houses of suspected individuals in Old Tupi village and Engineer colony. The police team successfully seized 1.12 grams of drugs (Heroin) and other incriminating substances during the operation. As a result, a total of eight persons were arrested for their involvement in possessing, consuming, and peddling drugs.

The case unfolded when a reliable informant provided crucial information about the possession and trafficking of narcotic substances on 17th July 2023, around 4:00 PM. DySP Togum, accompanied by SI B. Mossang and staff from PS Khonsa, promptly responded to the information. After recording the information and informing senior officials, the team proceeded to Old Tupi Village. Following a swift and immediate raid, the team searched the residence of Topha Teyang and Yasom Teyang, both residents of Old Tupi village. The search was conducted in the presence of Town Magistrate Dr. Ripi Doni and two independent witnesses. Although only empty containers were found at Topha Teyang’s residence, further questioning led to the identification of additional partners involved in the drug trade.

Accompanied by Town Magistrate and an independent witness, the police team then conducted a search at the residence of Phuhang Ramra, who was found in possession of approximately 1.12 grams of suspected heroin. Another individual, Sombang Lowang, was also present at the location and found to be committing an offense under Section 27(a) of the NDPS Act by using his house for drug consumption.

Further developments in the case revealed new information, leading the police team to raid the house of Phangoi Siang in Club Colony, Khonsa. Although only three empty containers were found at the location, Phangoi Siang provided crucial information about his supplier. Subsequently, the team, accompanied by the Town Magistrate, proceeded to Engineer Colony in Khonsa. At this location, a house search was conducted, leading to the discovery of several empty containers, aluminum foils, and a cash amount of Rs. 9,800. The occupants of the house, Thenya Lokho, Moklan Ramra, and Madhu Chetry, were found to be involved in the consumption of drugs, thereby committing offenses under Sections 25 and 28 of the NDPS Act. Thenya Lokho was directed to appear at PS Khonsa on 17th July 2023 at 7:00 AM.

The accused individuals, namely Topha Teyang, Yasom Teyang, Phuhang Ramra, Sombang Lowang, Phangoi Siang, Thenya Lokho, Moklan Ramra, and Madhu Chetry, have been arrested in connection with the case. They have been presented before the JMFC Khonsa and subsequently remanded to judicial custody. Currently, they have been shifted to the sub-jail in Khonsa.

FIR no. 09/23 of PS Khonsa has been registered under various sections of the NDPS Act, including 21(a), 27(a), 25, and 28, read with Section 34 of the IPC.
