KVK Tirap Organizes Successful Awareness cum Millet Recipe Contest, Encouraging Innovation in Farm Women for Better Health

In a remarkable initiative, KVK Tirap organized an Awareness cum Millet Recipe Contest on August 3rd, 2023, at Upper Kolam Village, Lazu block. The event aimed to popularize millet, with a focus on its importance for human health, as emphasized by the Government of India.

The programme commenced with Dr. N. Kumar, Senior Scientist and Head, delivering an opening remark, briefing about the significance of millets. Arvind Pratap, Nodal Officer of the programme, followed with a speech highlighting the importance of millets and their products for better health.

Farm women from 9 Self Help Groups actively participated and demonstrated various products made from foxtail millet, locally known as Semui. The showcased items included Laddu, Biscuits, Kheer, Khichdi, Momo, Samosa, Chapatti, Rice, Cake, and more.

A four-member evaluation team, comprising GB, Progressive farmer, and KVK Experts, assessed the products, and the top five SHGs were awarded certificates and cash prizes.

Chathong Lowang, ZPC Tirap District, graced the event as the Chief Guest, tasting the products and congratulating the winners. She praised the KVK Tirap team for organizing such a unique programme in remote areas, urging them to continue such initiatives to encourage farmers’ innovation.
