Khonsa Assam Rifles’ Spouses Inspire: Rakhi Celebration Lights Up Drug Rehabilitation Centre

Khonsa, August 30: The spouses of the troops from the Khonsa Battalion of Assam Rifles marked the festive occasion of Rakshabandhan by celebrating it with the inpatients of the Drugs Rehabilitation Centre at Charju. The center, operated by the Care Me Home NGO, is committed to assisting individuals on their journey towards recovery from drug addiction. The initiative saw the soldiers’ wives tying Rakhi to 28 inpatients, symbolizing a bond of care, support, and affection.

The event, which took place amidst the backdrop of the Rakshabandhan festival, aimed to extend encouragement to the inmates who are undergoing an intense transformation process to break free from the chains of drug addiction. The celebration was an attempt to foster inclusivity and offer a sense of belonging to those who often feel abandoned by society.

Isha Ahluwalia, the Coordinator of the Family Welfare Organisation of Khonsa Assam Rifles, graced the event along with Sontung Bangsia, Chairperson of the Care Me Home Foundation. The occasion was not only a joyful celebration but also an opportunity for motivation and empowerment. Ahluwalia lauded the efforts of the Care Me Home Foundation and encouraged the inpatients to persevere in their pursuit of a drug-free life. She emphasized that the soldiers’ families stand united in supporting the inmates in their battle against addiction, treating them as beloved siblings.

This initiative resonated deeply with the inpatients, providing them with a renewed sense of purpose and inspiring them to break free from the clutches of drugs. The Rakhi ceremony facilitated a heart-to-heart connection between the troops’ spouses and the inpatients, fostering a sense of unity and care that transcends boundaries.

Tirap, a district significantly impacted by drug abuse, has witnessed a slew of governmental initiatives aimed at tackling this pressing issue. Alongside the efforts to disrupt the drug supply chain, Assam Rifles, along with other government agencies, has been actively engaged in educational programs to steer the youth away from drugs and substance abuse.

As the country commemorates the festival of Rakshabandhan, the Khonsa Battalion of Assam Rifles and the Care Me Home Foundation have set a heartening example of empathy, compassion, and the power of unity in the fight against drug addiction. This gesture not only strengthens the bond between the troops and the community but also offers a glimmer of hope for those on the path to recovery.
