TEZU: Consequent of the better and double – lane Highway, over speeding and dangerous driving are the most important causes of road accident. Rising road accident in the Lohit district is reason for grave concern. Total 4 (four) person were killed so far and injured critically two male and two female as reported from SP Office crime branch between October to December 2021, Besides several unreported cases cannot be overlooked. Come New Year and picnic season accident becomes order of the day subsequent after the revelers get drunk and drive vehicles or motor bikes violating all traffic rules.
“We this time held frequent and surprise MV checking at various sensitive points together with night patrolling during 31st night and New Year to ensure accident free celebration. All our police team work hard in the month of December and earned huge Rs 186000/- revenue in a single month”, informs Sange Thinley Dy SP. Huge violation of traffic rules, the riders hardly use helmet, most of the bikes are unregistered and riders are sometime under age and triple carry, speedy and reckless driving are prime causes of road mishap, he said.
The Lohit Police has taken some of several steps in generating traffic awareness in College and Schools to reduce accidents and fatalities but of no avail. The police also erected barricades in some sensitive pockets to contain speed drive. However the police later removed them after the bikers hit the barricades and injured many. The police sources said the accidents are mostly after drunk and reckless driving.
“We seized vehicles and motor bikes which violets traffic rules and released after warning or imposing penalties”, says the Dy SP. Tough police has been working around the clock to put the traffic well regulated at the same time it is the duty of each citizen to abide by the rules and maintain certain speed in the market and township areas to avoid fatal accident, he suggests further.
