Former Home Minister and Veteran Political Leader of Arunachal Pradesh Neelam Taram Passes Away at 9:47 AM

Neelam Taram, a prominent political leader of Arunachal Pradesh and former Home Minister, passed away at 9:47 AM on May 5, 2023, due to a prolonged illness at TRIHMS in the state capital. His last rites will be performed on Sunday.

Several top leaders of the state, including Chief Minister Pema Khandu, Itanagar MLA Techi Kaso, leaders of various political parties, social leaders, public leaders, PRI leaders, IMC leaders, sports personalities, leaders from various students and community-based organizations, officers of various departments, and state government, paid a visit to the residence of Late Taram at Papu Nallah in the city to meet the bereaved family members and pay condolences.

The Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, Lt. General KT Parnaik, PVSM, UYSM, YSM (Retd.), has condoled the sudden demise of former Minister Neelam Taram. In a condolence message, the governor said that the state had lost a prominent political leader who made immense contributions towards the socio-economic development of the people and state in various capacities during his long and distinguished political career. He was a public figure of distinction, a visionary, and the pioneer of democratic values in Arunachal Pradesh, he said.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu, speaking to the media, said that “the news of the untimely demise of the former minister has saddened me. I have been very closely attached to him, and on several occasions, I have brought his medicine from Delhi. I personally have a relationship with him, and I feel as a part of the family member.” “His death has created a void and has caused irreparable loss to the society and state as a whole. I condole the demise of Late Neelam Taram and pray Almighty for eternal peace for the departed soul in heavenly abode,” said Khandu.

The state government has declared a state mourning on Sunday, and last rites will be performed with honor. Arunachal East Member of Parliament Tapir Gao also condoled the untimely demise of Late Neelam Taram.

The Nyishi Elite Society (NES) expresses shock at the sudden and sad demise of Neelam Taram and condoles his untimely demise. In a condolence message, the NES said that “Late Taram belonged to a very humble family background and started his life as Junior Teacher. He was a thinker, writer, politician, Social worker, good administrator, a soft-spoken, a friend of all ages, philanthropist, a man of practical & principle, a statesman, and a veteran public leader of the state”.

The Arunachal Pradesh Catholic Association (APCA) also expressed deep sadness at the untimely demise of Late Neelam Taram. “Apart from being the former Home Minister, Late Taram was the founder member of Nyishi Baptist Church council (NBCC) till his last breath,” said APCA. “Late Taram was a kind-hearted and loving person and has served the society with humanity. His death is a great loss and irreparable for family members, society, and the state as a whole,” added APCA Secretary-General Nabam Pekhi.
