Defense Minister Rajnath Singh to Inaugurates Key Infrastructure Projects along Arunachal Pradesh’s Nechiphu Tunnel

Nipjyoti Kalita, Itanagar, Sep 11: In a significant move to strengthen India’s defense infrastructure along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), Defense Minister Rajnath Singh is all set to inaugurate and dedicate 90 vital infrastructure projects to the nation on September 12. These projects, valued at a total of Rs 2941 crores, encompass a wide range of developments, including roads, bridges, tunnels, and airfields, strategically located in 10 border states and union territories. It’s worth noting that last year, 103 similar projects were successfully completed, amounting to a cost of Rs 2897 crores.

One of the key highlights of this event is the inauguration of the state-of-the-art 422.9-meter-long Class 70 RCC Devak Bridge, located in Jammu and Kashmir. This bridge holds immense strategic importance as it will facilitate the rapid deployment of troops, heavy equipment, and mechanized vehicles to forward areas, while also playing a pivotal role in boosting the socio-economic development of the region.

Another noteworthy infrastructure project being inaugurated is the 500-meter-long Nechiphu Tunnel situated on the Balipara-Charduar-Tawang Road in Arunachal Pradesh. This tunnel, in conjunction with the under-construction Sela Tunnel, will provide all-weather connectivity to the strategically vital Tawang Region. It is expected to benefit both the armed forces deployed in the region and the tourists visiting the pristine Tawang area.

Furthermore, the reconstructed Bagdogra and Barrackpore Airfields in West Bengal, with a combined investment of Rs 529 crores, are set to play a significant role in enhancing the defensive and offensive capabilities of the Indian Air Force. Additionally, they will facilitate commercial flight operations in the region, marking a major step forward in regional connectivity.

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh will also conduct the e-shilanyash of Nyoma Airfield in Ladakh, a project costing Rs 218 crores. This airfield development will significantly bolster air infrastructure in Ladakh and enhance the Indian Air Force’s capabilities along the Northern Borders.

These infrastructure developments, spearheaded by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), underscore a remarkable surge in road and bridge construction over the past three years. These projects not only strengthen India’s defense preparedness but also trigger positive changes in remote border villages. The connectivity provided by these developments has led to reverse migration, population growth, and improved living conditions, including schooling facilities, healthcare centers, electricity supply, and employment opportunities for the local communities.
