Arunachal Mourns Passing of Administrative Luminary, Late Annayok James Tayeng, IAS(Retd.)

The Tayeng Welfare Society is in deep mourning following the sad demise of its senior and veteran member, Late Annayok James Tayeng, IAS(Retd.). The 83-year-old passed away at District Hospital Roing on 2nd December 2023 at 8:00 PM, succumbing to a prolonged illness. Late Annayok James Tayeng was a prominent figure in the administrative services of Arunachal Pradesh, contributing significantly to the formative years of the state.

Born on 1st March 1940 in Pasighat, East Siang (A.P), he was the son of Lt. Apok Tayeng and Lt. Opet Tayeng. His educational journey took him through Hr. Secondary School Pasighat, St. Edmunds College in Shillong for Class XI & XII, and St. Stephens College, Delhi University for Graduation & Post Graduation.

Late Tayeng’s government service began in 1964 when he joined the Indian Frontier Administrative Service (IFAS). His initial postings included serving as Assistant Commissioner in Chayang Tajo, Erstwhile Kameng District (1965-66) and Anini, Erstwhile Lohit District (1967-69). Opting for the IAS in 1967, he served in various capacities under the Government of Manipur, including ADC Imphal (1969-70), Secretary, Commissioner Chief Secretary (1969-99), and retired as Additional Chief Secretary, Manipur on 28th February 1999.

Late Annayok James Tayeng is survived by his wife, Smt. Geman Tayeng, and children Mrs. Priscilla Tayeng Apang, Mrs. Rebecca Tayeng Linggi, Mr. John Tayeng, and Mr. David Tayeng. In this time of sorrow, the Tayeng Welfare Society expresses heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, praying that his soul may rest in eternal peace.
