74th International Olympic Day observed at Chimpu

ITANAGAR, Jun 23: Along with the rest of the world, Arunachal Pradesh also joined the 74th International Olympic Day celebration here at Itanagar this year’s theme is “together for a peaceful world”.

Organized by Arunachal Olympic Association (AOA) in collaboration with the Directorate of Sports Government of Arunachal Pradesh including Paralympic Association Arunachal.  

The Marathon race was flag off by Itanagar Municipal Council (IMC) Mayor Tame Phassang in presence of AOA president Taba Tedir, AOA General Secretary Bamang Tago and many other members. 

On the 0ccasion Mayor Phassang highlighted how the Olympic game was started and also about the motives behind the game to the participants.  

The main motives of the Olympic is to create oneness among in this world through game without discrimination each other and people should not take wrong path specially youth and take part in games and sport.   

On 23rd June the International Olympic Day is celebrated to commemorate the day when the International Olympic Committee was founded in 1894, aiming to promote participation in sport across the globe regardless of age, gender or athletic ability. 

International Olympic Day is also considered as a celebration of sports and health celebrated annually in various sports all over the world. 

The purpose of the Olympic Movement was always to promote peace through sport. 

Sport always builds bridges and brings people together in peace and solidarity. In these difficult times we are living through, with conflict and division on the rise, we need this unifying power of sport more than ever before, Said Bamang Tago Secretary General AOA.

On the occasion today we conducted a marathon race with the theme “Run for Sports & Peace” with a distance of 7 km started from Govt. secondary school, Chimpu to Nyokum Laphang ground, Itanagar. 

For both Men and women open to all categories, where more than thousands senior citizens, boys and Girls, participated in the race from across the state.    

In the girls category Joti Mane won first position, who completed 7 km distance within 45 minutes, Yabang Tali finished in 47 minutes as second position and Pomen Tepoa reached in 54 minutes as third position.   

In Boys Category Harang Cheri competed 7km distance in 38minutes as first position, Tangu Ngamle 39 minutes and Habung Nyipa 40 as second and third position respectively. 

In the under 9 years category Kyon Tamin and Kangun Jamoh competed the 7 km distance as first and second position respectively.

In the senior category Dr. Kago Gambo and Tai Hipik completed the 7km distance as first and second position respectively .
