4 missing minor girls from Changlang rescued in Guwahati; woman detained

NAHARLAGUN, Sep 11: The Changlang Police in coordination with Assam Police rescued 4 minor girls from Guwahati.

While sharing the information, Changlang Superintendent of Police Mihin Gambo stated that on September 8, 2022 at 9 am, a written complaint was received at the Diyun police station regarding the disappearance of 4 minor girls from Manabhum area in Diyun under Changlang district.

Accordingly, a kidnapping case was registered at Diyun police station vide Diyun PS C/No. 4/2022 U/S 363 IPC.

“Investigation was launched immediately by the Officer-in-Charge of Diyun police station, Sub-Inspector N. Rango in which one woman, identified as Nivedita Chanda, emerged as the prime suspect and technical intelligence showed her location in Guwahati. Moreover, human intelligence also confirmed the location of the suspected woman along with the missing girls at Ornet Naga Guest House in Guwahati,” SP Gambo said in a statement.

The Changlang SP immediately coordinated with the DIG of Assam Police, Prasanta Changmai and Dispur DCP Sudhakar Singh and shared the exact location and detailed information about the missing girls and the suspected woman. Accordingly, the Assam Police in coordination with Changlang district police immediately rushed to the spot and rescued 4 minor girls and detained the suspected woman.

“Swift action of Changlang district police in coordination with Assam Police under supervision of PHQ Itanagar led to successful rescue of the minor girls from human trafficking racket,” SP Gambo stated. 

After completing legal formalities and necessary counselling, the rescued minor girls have been handed over to their guardians through the Child Welfare Committee, Changlang, the SP further informed.
