Women Police in Itanagar arrests accused in sexual assault case within 48 hours

NAHARLAGUN, Mar 09: In another success in solving a crime against a girl child within a short period, the Women Police in Itanagar arrested a person on charges of sexually assaulting a child within 48 hours.
Capital Police informed that on March 6, 2022, a case of sexual assault of a 12-year-old girl child was reported at the Women Police Station in Itanagar.

Accordingly, a case was registered vide WPS Itanagar Case No.  37/2022 u/s 376 IPC r/w sec. 6 POCSO ACT and the case was endorsed to Sub-Inspector Dopi Pakam for investigation.

The child was immediately taken for medical formalities.

“The incident took place in the Chimpu area when the mother of the child was absent,” the Capital Police said.

“The alleged accused was was a resident of Nirjuli area and studying in ALA, Lekhi but he was found to be absconding,” the city police said.

On March 8, 2022, with the help of technical support from the State police headquarters, the team of Women Police Station in the city traced the alleged accused in Ziro.

“He was finally nabbed with help of Ziro Police from a hotel there (Ziro). WPS team has now taken custody,” Capital Police said.

The Capital Superintendent of Police has lauded the efforts made by the Women Police Station and also thanked Ziro Police for their valuable assistance.

“WPS Itanagar team comprised Sub-Inspectors R Singpho, Dopi Pakam and others have done excellent work by solving the case in a short time in a case of crime against children,” the city police said.

Further, the Capital Superintendent of Police assured investigation will be carried out with priority in order to ensure swift legal relief for the victim.
