Unity Across Parties in Arunachal Pradesh: Condemnation of China’s Map Displaying Arunachal Pradesh and Akasai Chin in 2023

Manoj Singh || ITANAGAR, August 30: In an unprecedented show of solidarity, political parties in Arunachal Pradesh have unequivocally denounced China’s latest map for 2023, which controversially includes Arunachal Pradesh and Akasai Chin within its borders. Addressing the media at Rajiv Gandhi Bhawan, former Chief Minister and State Congress President, Nabam Tuki, expressed deep distress over China’s actions.

Tuki stressed that the claims were baseless, asserting that Arunachal Pradesh has never been affiliated with China historically or politically. He pointed out that the region shares no border with China and is a proud part of India. He condemned China’s audacity in altering geographical realities and called for a strong response from the Indian government.

Notably, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Janata Dal (United) [JD(U)], People’s Party of Arunachal (PPA), Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), and Gana Suraksha Party (GSP) also joined the chorus of disapproval. Techi Necha, the BJP spokesperson, condemned the move as a violation of territorial integrity, calling it an uncalled-for act that will not be accepted.

Rahi Tagung Rughu, President of JD(U), asserted that the people of Arunachal Pradesh are firmly rooted in their Indian identity and will resist any attempt at encroachment. He called for the government to take a proactive stance and address this issue on international platforms.

The AAP President, Yamra Taya, asserted that the Arunachal Pradesh community firmly identifies itself as Indian, not Chinese, by birthright and heritage. Taya urged Chief Minister Pema Khandu and MPs Kiren Rijiju and Tapir Gao to take immediate action to counter China’s claims. He also emphasized the need for resolution of visa issues faced by athletes from the region while traveling to China.

Toko Sheetal, the GSP spokesperson, condemned China’s attempt to alter geographical realities, emphasizing the region’s commitment to peace and harmonious relationships with neighboring countries.

In a significant move, former Union Minister and Congress MLA from Pasighat, Ninong Ering, has written to the Prime Minister, urging him to raise the issue of China’s territorial aggression during the G20 summit. Ering expressed concern over China’s ongoing attempts to assert its claims over Arunachal Pradesh and called for a firm stand to protect India’s sovereignty.

The united stance of Arunachal Pradesh’s political parties sends a clear message that the region stands strong and resolute in defense of its Indian identity and territorial integrity. This collective condemnation underscores the urgency for the Indian government to address the issue diplomatically and assertively on the international stage.
