Sangam Bridge collapses, 03 persons missing

Itanagar, June 29: Sangam Bridge over River Siyom connecting Pangin to Boleng HQ Siang District collapsed wherein a dumper truck fell with the collapse of the bridge at 08:30 am on Tuesday. In the incident, three persons are missing namely Rahul Tamang (driver) aged 22 years, Ranjit Sutradhar (handy-man) aged 21 years, and Mitinga Bormo (labour) aged 19 years. The bridge is part of the NH-13 route.

          The MLA Ojing Tasing (Pangin-Boleng), Siang DC Atul Tayeng, Siang SP S. Singpho, OC GREF S.K. Singh, AEE D. Mahadev, and DDMO visited the site. An FIR has been lodged by GREF. NDRF and SDRF teams are headed to Siang District via the Pasighat-Mariang-Yingkiong route for search and rescue operations.

          The OC GREF informed that the construction of a new bridge will take two months. He also informed that logistical data for the same will be conveyed within two days. Meanwhile, a road formation cutting leading to Pangin was also washed away on 27 June 2021 which will take 15-20 days to open as new excavation is underway. The collapse of the bridge has also damaged optical-fibre cable lines and impacted the internet connectivity in the district.

The Siang DC says, “The MLA and district administration are exploring alternative routes to ensure the district remains connected.”
