Lazu 21st July, 2023 : Assam Rifles conducted a “Run for Fun” at Lazu town on 21 July 2023 with the theme “Say No to Drugs and Yes to Life”. The event was organised with an aim to educate the local youths about the ill effects of consuming non prescribed drugs while simultaneously promoting the benefits of leading a healthy lifestyle.
The run was carried out 2.5 km long and the participants took parts enthusiastically. The event culminated with felicitation of the prizes to the winners. The event was very successful wherein more than 200 participants turned up for the Run.
The Assam Rifles officer said that Lazu has historically been one of the areas in Tirap district, that has remained most affected by drugs and narco-terrorism. In times when the youth is being misguided towards procurement and consumption of illicit drugs, such events help spread awareness about these malpractices and significantly curtail them. Such events not only educate the youth but also help contain terrorism that is being fueled by the money generated from trade of drugs. Assam Rifles identified this opportunity and organised this event for the benefit of the people of the area.
