One day workshop on sexual harassment of women at workplace

NAHARLAGUN, JUNE 17 : One day workshop on sexual harassment to women’s at workplace (prevention, prohibition and redressal) Act 2013 for directors and chief engineers and HoDs concluded successfully. More than 50 HoDs of various departments of state take part.

Speaking on the occasion, the Arunachal Pradesh state commission for women (APSCW) Chairperson Kenjum Pakam in her address said that after our new team has come into being and we are carrying out several awareness activities which need hours as most things need proper awareness among the masses. Today’s workshop is also organized under the direction of the National Commission for Women (NCW). Today’s meeting,  workshop  and training would benefit all the HoDs first and accordingly there will be a message for other staff and officials and officers of the respective department. she said.

This programme is to keep good relations between officers and officials and provide a sense of respect for the female gender.

No one should be defamed and therefore it is necessary that a local committee and complaint committee should be immediately constituted. She said.


One should remember that we all are the most important people and after the blessing we have come to such an extent and it is the mother who always looks forward to his son and daughter becoming a fine gentleman and serving the society so we should always respect them. She said.

In Indian culture we the citizens have a high status of women in any form and their contribution should be respected.
Today men and women are working equally and man is incomplete without a woman in the form of mother, sister, daughter and others. We should stop the incidents  of exploitation and harassment of females which is  increasing day by day. It is necessary that every staff member needs to be given respect according to her status and position. She said.

APSCW Vice Chairperson Nabam Yahi Tad inform that many women’s face gender discrimination and we should think that we have women in form of mother  sister, daughter and others and should know and see that such issues does not take place and it will be reduced only if the HoD and other senior officers know it proper and aware of such act and guidelines  she said.
Such a local complaint committee needs to be renewed every three years, she said.

If there is more than 10 Staffa there should be an internal complaint committee with four members and awareness on the rules should also be given to all the members if less than 10 a local complaint committee and all such committee constitutions should be compiled by later by July 2022. She said.

The vice chairperson elaborated several pros and cons of ” Sexual harassment of women at workplace (prevention, prohibition & Redressal Act 2013. She explained about Visakha guidelines, Child marriage and several  others though power point presentation. She urges upon all to start a humble beginning so that both the male and female members of the society enjoy equal status in the society. she added.

Addressing the day long sensitization programme Director ATI Patey Marik said that discrimination to women is crime and harassment in any way is also a crime and it would be better if all of us work together without any discrimination to our college in any way. 

But as per records from the Police station it is found that the crime against women and harassment to women at the workplace has also been increased and it’s a matter for concern. It is the need of the hour to sensitize all so that we can pass on to our younger generation in time to come to change the society. Marik said.

A memorandum from Chief secretary has also been received on Saturday directing to behave properly with the female staffs and members of offices and accordingly the message has been circulated to the HoDs through whatsapp. Another message from Women & Child department (WCD) for constitution of local committee in this regard and expect that you all will convene a meeting in respective offices and hope with this the harassment to women and girl child will be reduced. Marik added

WCD Nodal officer among others also share their experiences and advice all the officers present to act swiftly or legal action may also be initiated against the officer concerned who does not adhere to the rules and regulation and guidelines for safety of women at workplace including the mad servants at home and girl child at school and college and women working in factory and industry and other places.  

The sexual harassment of women at workplace (prevention, prohibition and Redressal) Act 2013  is to give protection to women, girls pursuing education, offices and mad servant and female working in the street, company and working at any place.

As per information still there are several departments which have no internal committee and complaint committee to care for the working women in various workplaces.
