Government of Arunachal Pradesh has conveyed its approval on 21.07.2023 for allotment of 2000 MW Subansiri Upper Hydroelectric Project and 1800 MW Kamala Hydroelectric Project to NHPC Limited.
Subansiri Upper Hydroelectric Project is located in Upper Subansiri district, Arunachal Pradesh on the river Subansiri which is tributary of the river Brahmaputra. Kamala Hydroelectric Project is to be constructed in Kamle district, Arunachal Pradesh on the river Kamala which is tributary of the river Subansiri.
This reflects recognition of NHPC capabilities in development of hydropower projects. NHPC is already constructing 2000 MW Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project on river Subansiri which is nearing commissioning and NHPC has recently started construction of 2880 MW Dibang Multipurpose Project on river Dibang in Arunachal Pradesh.
