ITANAGAR | SEP | 5 : 53 nos of two wheelers recovered and a gang of four-member of two-wheeler thieves were arrested by Itanagar Capital Police recently . The accused persons have been identified as Bisho Mili (32)., Pranab Kutum (30)., Pranab Kutum (20) , and Apollo Pegu (30). This was informed by SP, Itanagar, Rohit Rajbir Singh on Tuesday.
Earlier, a capital police received a complaint from one Takio Kanu that his Yamaha R15 bike was stolen from Sekay Colony area in Itanagar on the intervening night of June 14-15.
On receipt of the complaint, a case was registered and the police launched an investigation. During the investigation, it was revealed that the stolen bike was fitted with a GPS tracking system and the police team managed to recover it from Dhenudhara Village, Gohpur (Assam) on same day.
On recovery of the stolen bike, technical surveillance was mounted on potential suspects, and sources were engaged to identify the thieves.
A scientific pattern analysis into the incidents of two-wheeler theft was also conducted, which revealed the presence of a well-organized gang of thieves operating in the Capital since 2019.
Traps were laid to apprehend the gang members and on July 24, the Chimpu PS team managed to arrest one of the accused persons, Bisho Mili, the gang leader of the case. The other three accused persons were arrested subsequently.
Upon interrogation, the gang has revealed that they have made at least 30 attempts to steal two-wheelers in the last 4 months itself, and have been successful in a few. They have a unique modus operandi through which they steal vehicles on demand too, apart from stealing at whim and selling them off at cheap prices.
The police have also seized several tools and equipment used for stealing vehicles. More than ten vehicles are expected to recover in coming days, further informed Singh.
To stop thief of two wheelers at least one can fit GPS system which may help to track the vehicle and also keep them in safe custody so that the thief attempt failed at first and we can save our vehicle for thief. The Itanagar SP added.
The Itanagar SP further appeal the owners of these two wheeler to contact the local police station specially Itanagar Police station and Chimpu police station with proper documents, FIR and report.
