ITANAGAR MUNICIPAL CORPORATION ADDRESSES CITY’S GROWING CONCERNS

Itanagar, August 3: Mayor Tamme Phassang of Itanagar Municipal Corporation (IMC) led a crucial joint meeting today, addressing the escalating traffic congestion, irregular water supply, and frequent power cuts plaguing the twin capital. The gathering saw the participation of administrators, Superintendent of Police (Itanagar, Naharlagun & Traffic), Engineers from various line departments, and other stakeholders, all determined to find viable solutions.

The meeting commenced with a comprehensive discussion on the pressing issues faced by residents. Heads of concerned departments presented detailed insights into the problems and assured their commitment to prompt resolution.

Regarding traffic congestion, Mayor Phassang acknowledged the ongoing highway construction as a contributing factor and revealed that concerned executing agencies have initiated the renovation process, including repairing potholes. Moreover, the proposal for constructing three bypass roads between the twin capitals was put forward to alleviate traffic woes. Mayor Phassang emphasized that public cooperation and understanding would be vital when claiming compensation during road construction.

Insufficient parking lots were also identified as a key cause of traffic problems. In response, the IMC has identified potential locations for the construction of multilevel parking systems in the city.

Water scarcity emerged as another pressing concern, with approximately ninety thousand people in Ward 1 to Ward 5 being affected due to a damaged main pipeline. However, the concerned executing engineer has assured that the water supply will be restored within ten days. To ensure uninterrupted water distribution during this period, the IMC will deploy an additional fleet of 15 water supply vehicles.

Addressing the issue of frequent power cuts, Mayor Phassang reported that detailed reports from concerned engineers suggested the replacement of existing transformers with higher-capacity ones. As the capital’s population and households continue to increase, the need for more powerful transformers has become evident. The IMC has advised the department to submit a requisition to the government for the acquisition of high-end transformers and assured full support for the welfare of the public.

The meeting witnessed the presence of eminent officials, including DC-Talo Potom, SP-Traffic- Sachin Singhal(IPS), SP-Itanagar Rohit Rajbir Singh(IPS), SP-Naharlagun Mihin Gambo, Dahey Sangno CEO-ISCDCPL, Tamchi Syam AE(PHED), Commissioner-IMC Likha Tejji, and Engineers from PWD, among others.
