The Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, Lt. General KT Parnaik, PVSM, UYSM, YSM (Retd.), currently on an official tour to the National Capital, visited the impressive National War Memorial in New Delhi on August 31, 2023. During his visit, the Governor paid homage to the valiant martyrs of the Indian Armed Forces who made the ultimate sacrifice in the defense of our nation, by laying a wreath at the eternal flame of Amar JawanJyoti.
In a deeply reflective moment, the Governor expressed that the National War Memorial is a testimony of the supreme sacrifices made by the Indian Armed Forces in defence of Mother India. Their noble deeds will continue to inspire generations of our citizens to uphold this noble tradition and ensure that the honour and safety of our country remains untarnished. He reached out to each of the notable plaques of the twenty-three martyrs from Arunachal Pradesh, of which seven are gallantry awardees including Havildar Hangpan Dada, Ashoka Chakra (posthumous) and paid floral tributes.
The Governor said that the National War Memorial plays a crucial role in fostering a sense of unity, moral integrity, sacrifice, and national pride among our citizens. He called upon the people of Arunachal Pradesh and other North Eastern States to make a point of visiting the National War Memorial whenever they are in the National Capital. He believes that such visits will not only honor the sacrifices of our heroes but also serve as a source of inspiration to uphold the values they epitomized.
The Governor was warmly received and conducted through the impressive memorial layout. While signing the visitors’ book at the War Memorial, he left a heartfelt message underscoring the importance of perpetuating the memory of our brave soldiers. He wrote ‘I humbly salute the brave hearts who continue to shine like the stars in the sky and who put the nation above self’.
