Nipjyoti Kalita || ITANAGAR, Oct 12: The Central government has approved Rs 118.50 crore for seven pivotal bridge projects under the Setu Bandhan Scheme in Arunachal Pradesh. The step is set to transform the State’s infrastructure landscape.
The approval, announced by Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, comes as a testament to the government’s commitment to enhancing connectivity, fostering economic growth, and improving the overall quality of life in Arunachal Pradesh.
The approved bridge projects are set to bridge crucial gaps in the State’s connectivity, encompassing an RCC bridge over Pacha river at Lachang, linking Laimoya, Nerewa, and Sorrowa villages in East Kameng district. This bridge (45 metre) would cost Rs 9.02 crore.
Additionally, an RCC bridge (46 metre) from Goang to Donigaon village, spanning Pacha river at Goang to be built at a cost of Rs 7.66 cr, is expected to enhance access in the same district.
It is hoped three bridges on NH-313, stretching from Roing-Anini road to New Chidu village via NHPC colony in Lower Dibang district would further augment transportation in the region. These bridges (2 nos. – 45 metre span each & 1 No. 60 metre) would be constructed at Rs 24.35 cr.
A double-lane steel composite bridge with RCC decking (70 metre) at Kharsa, Dirang in West Kameng district, to be built at a cost of Rs 16.25 cr, is expected to provide better connectivity.
Other projects include an RCC bridge (120 metre) at Pikte Point to be built at Rs 26.33 cr, an RCC bridge (120 metre) over Ngopok river to be constructed at Rs 10 cr, and a steel composite bridge (120 metre) over Panyor river to be built at a cost of Rs 24.89 cr, each catering to specific needs in their respective districts.
Expressing gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Pema Khandu in a statement on ‘X’ said: “Bridging gaps in connectivity through the Setu Bandhan Scheme have been made possible, thanks to the unwavering commitment of PM Narendra Modi ji to the all-round development of Arunachal Pradesh. The new bridges will not only enhance the ease of living for our people but also give a significant boost to the local economy.”Union Earth Sciences Minister Kiren Rijiju, who represents Arunachal West constituency, has also applauded the initiative on ‘X’ stating: “Setu Bandhan Empowers Arunachal Pradesh: With a commitment to connectivity, seven bridge projects get a green light under the Central Road & Infrastructure Fund. This marks a giant leap towards a well-connected and prosperous Arunachal Pradesh under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi ji and CM Pema Khandu ji.”
