Awareness Programme on “Commercial Cultivation of Aromatic crops, its processing and Marketing “ organised

ITANAGAR, AUGUST 29 : The DBT-APSCS&T Center of Excellence for Bioresources and Sustainable Development, Kimin organized one-day awareness programme on “Commercial Cultivation of Aromatic crops, its Processing and Marketing”was conducted on Monday 29th August 2022by. The programme was organized in technical collaboration with Fragrance and flavour Development Centre (FFDC), Kannauj, Uttar Pradesh.

FFDC in collaboration with DBT- APSCS&T CoE for BRSD  aims to serve as an interface between essential oil, fragrance and flavour industry and the R&D institutions in Agro-technology and chemical technology.

The awareness programme imparted to the farmers with knowledge on different aspects of cultivation, extraction, processing and marketing of aromatic plants in Arunachal Pradesh for entrepreneurship development and sustainable income generation. Two Resource persons from FFDC Kannauj Kamlesh Kumar, Scientific Officer and  V.V Ramarao, Scientific Officer shared valuable knowledge on commercial cultivation, processing and marketing of Aroma crops for potential sustainable wealth generation and enterprise development in Arunachal Pradesh. Dr. Y Disco Singh, Assistant Professor and Dr.Punabati Heisnan Assistant Professor from College of Horticulture-CAU, Pasighat also graced the occasion as Resource Persons.

Er. Saurav Kr  Pathak, Scientist-C, DBT- APSCS&T CoE for BRSD, Kimin welcomed the Resource persons and participants. Dr. Sanjeeb Kalita, Scientist-B highlighted about the importance of the programme conducted and requested farmers to avail themselves full benefit of the research and development avenues undergoing running in the Centre. 

During the programme, Dr T. Madhan Mohan, Consultant cum Advisor, DBT-APSCS&T CoE for BRSD briefed them about the importance of the programme and expressed his appreciation for the enormous participation of farmers and entrepreneurs in the programme. He also highlighted R&D activities undergoing in the Center and the DBT-sponsored Skill Vigyan Programme running in the Centre that provides high-quality hands-on training in tools and techniques in multidisciplinary areas of biotechnology for entry-level students in partnership with various institutions in the state.

Around seventy five (75) nos. of farmers, prospective entrepreneurs, Self Help Groups (SHGs) members from Pasighat, Namsai and Kimin Circle and officials of ARSRLM, Block Mission Management Unit (BMMU)Kimin participated in the programme. After the technical session, the participants also visited the Medicinal and Aromatic plants garden, Processing unit and were shown a technical demonstration of Field Distillation Unit (FDU) for extraction of essential oil. 

At the conclusion of the program, MOAs were also signed between the DBT-APSCS&T CoE for Bioresources and Sustainable Development, Kimin and three (3)  Self Help Groups(SHGs) from Kimin (Kakoi),Pasighat (Seram Village) and Namsa i(Nampong) for undertaking large scale  cultivation &processing of Aroma crops under the CoE’coordinated programmes.
