Arunachal’s Lower Subansiri Police ‘solves’ Tasso Grayu murder case, arrests alleged accused

Itanagar, Mar 31: The Lower Subansiri District Police on Friday claimed to have solved the mysterious murder case of veteran Congress leader Tasso Grayu, 89, by arresting the alleged accused, a 70-year-old man, and recovering the weapon used in committing the offence.

The octogenarian, who was allegedly stabbed with a sharp weapon by an unknown person at Hari village in Lower Subansiri district on March 22, had succumbed to his injuries two days later on March 24 at TRIHMS, Naharlagun. Lower Subansiri SP Sachin Kumar Singhal said, based on an FIR received from one Tasso Lajee of Hari village on March 23 and subsequent death of Tasso Grayu, a case (No.08/2023) U/S 302/341 IPC was registered at Ziro Police Station.

Subsequently, a special investigation team, headed by SDPO Ojing Lego, comprising SI Hage Loder (IC) of the case), SI Tania Uli and four others was formed. During the course of investigation, all the electronic evidence such as CCTV footage, CDR & Tower Dump analysis were done and all suspects were interrogated. “After painstaking efforts during investigation, considering all the circumstantial evidences and the witnesses and linking the chain of events, one Nami Chattung, 70, of Hong village was apprehended from Banderdewa on March 30 with assistance from Banderdewa Police,” the SP said, adding that further investigation is underway.

Late Tasso Grayu was a former editor of ‘The Arunachal Times’, a local daily based at Itanagar. He also worked as a news reader with All India Radio.

He was one of the first-generation politicians from the Apatani community and was known for his multi-talented roles like an entrepreneur, politician, and a revered shaman in later part of his life.
