APEDA Organizes State-Level Programme on Mission LiFE and Electric Mobility

ITANAGAR, JUNE 5 – The Arunachal Pradesh Energy Development Agency (APEDA) under the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) organized a State-Level Programme on Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) and an awareness workshop on Electric Mobility at the State Banquet Hall in Itanagar. The event took place on the eve of World Environment Day.

The objective of the programme was to raise awareness about electric vehicles (EVs) and electric vehicle chargers, emphasizing the importance of behavioral changes and mindful actions for a sustainable environment. Prof. Manapuran Muralidhar, Director of NERIST, attended the programme as the chief guest. He shared innovative research activities conducted by NERIST students, focusing on carbon emissions and carbon absorption achieved through tree plantations on their campus. He emphasized the need for everyone to rise above selfish interests and engage in planting activities to coexist harmoniously with the natural environment.

Marbom Bam, Director of APEDA, informed the audience that a draft policy on electric vehicles had been sent to the government. Once finalized, the department would strive to introduce electric vehicles on the streets. The plan is to establish 50 charging stations before the electric vehicles are introduced. While there may be some initial challenges, the director expressed optimism that people would gradually embrace electric vehicles. He also highlighted the importance of showcasing electric vehicles to visitors from other parts of the state and metro cities, allowing them to learn about the benefits of electric vehicles. The APEDA Director added that the department is hopeful that people will become more knowledgeable and interested in electric vehicles.

The programme was attended by senior officers from the Department of Power, Transport Department, Science & Technology, and APSERC. Students from NERIST, King Cup School, and Guardian Angel School performed a dance highlighting the importance of avoiding plastic usage. Participants were also given locally handmade bags adorned with the Mission LiFE logo, promoting the campaign’s message. Rajib Kumar Das, a consultant from M/s INVENCO, delivered a presentation on electric vehicle chargers.

The event successfully generated awareness and encouraged discussions on electric mobility and sustainable environmental practices, contributing to the larger mission of Mission LiFE in Arunachal Pradesh.
