TAWANG, June 20:— Chief Minister Pema Khandu inaugurated the registration process for the upcoming Tawang Marathon today. The event, set to take place in Tawang from October 1st, will feature four categories of marathon races: 5 km, 10 km, 21 km, and 42 km. The marathon is being jointly organized by the state government and the Tawang-based 5 Mountain Division of the Indian Army.
At the launch ceremony, Chief Minister Khandu unveiled the event website, ‘www.tawangmarathon.com’, along with the official mascot and T-shirt. Displaying his enthusiasm and support, Khandu became the first person to register for the event, signing up for the 10 km category. The Chief Minister expressed his optimism that the marathon would attract numerous participants, including enthusiasts and professionals from around the world.
Highlighting the importance of physical activity in today’s digital age, Khandu urged individuals from diverse backgrounds to participate in the marathon. He emphasized the positive impact of physical exercise on both physical and mental well-being. The Chief Minister also envisioned the marathon as a catalyst for promoting sports in the state and encouraging talented athletes to pursue their respective fields seriously.
Recognizing the potential of sportspersons in the region, Khandu disclosed that the state government has modified the state sports policy to provide support and incentives to athletes. The policy aims to inspire and nurture talented individuals, enabling them to represent the state in national and international events, including the Olympic Games.
The Tawang Marathon is part of the Center’s Vibrant Village Program, aiming to foster development and vibrancy in rural areas. The launch ceremony witnessed the presence of Tawang MLA Tsering Tashi, GoC 5 Mountain Division A K Singh, Secretary Sports, the deputy commissioner of Tawang, and other dignitaries.
With the registration process now open on the official website, all health enthusiasts and conscious citizens are encouraged to join the Tawang Marathon and contribute to the promotion of sports and fitness in the region.
