Fact-finding body formed, to submit report on issues raised by Dodum: Lowang

ITANAGAR, Apr 28 : The Public Health Engineering & Water Supply minister Wangki Lowang on Thursday requested activist Sol Dodum to call off his indefinite hunger strike as his demands for potable drinking water  which is under active consideration by the state government.

Briefing about the steps taken by the state government to solve the issues here at the Civil secretariat conference hall, Lowang said, a fact finding committee has been constituted to bring out the detailed report on the issues raised by Dodum.

To ascertain the facts and allegation leveled by Dodum against the PHE department, three member’s facts finding committee which included Secretary (Civil Aviation) Swapnik Naik, Chief Engineer (PWD) Tayu Gara, Deputy Inspector General of Police (HQ) (DIG) Michi Paku have been directed to submit the detail report by 10 May next, he added.

Stating action would be initiated according to the reports of the committee, he said, “We would be able to find a solution to the issues which was raised by Dodum, but one should have faith towards the fact finding committee,”.

The committee shall also issue a parawise report on the eight points included in the representation  dated April 19 addressed to the Chief Minister. The action initiated/ongoing by PHE & WS department in pursuance of the status report submitted by the Chief Engineer to Secretary (PHE & WS) on water supply system on Seppa township. The step taken to ensure adherence to the timeline committed and contained  in order of 25th April 2022. The Minister said.

The committee shall also submit any other recommendation on the attendant issue. The Minister said.

Appealing to dwellers of upstream especially Kuchi Nallah to preserve the water by keeping river clean especially, he also informed that taking the water issues of Dodum at the fast track mode, the PHE department is committed to complete the task within timeline for the greater interest of Seppa township and all steps for smooth completion has been directed with timeline.

Department would be completing the water connection of Kuchi Nallah intake point to reservoir by 25 May, Repair and maintenance of defunct Rapid Sand Filtration (RSF) plant at Macha by 24 July and Augmentation of water supply by 22 October, said secretary PHE & WS department Rinchin Tashi.

Informing as per the 2011 census, the population of Seppa township was Seventeen Thousand, now it has increased  up to more than Forty thousand, he said earlier the requirement of water was 4.57 Million Litres Per Day (MLD) but once the ongoing project of Kuchi and Macha is completed then department would be having capacity of 6.57 MLD which is enough to cater the Seppa Township.

The minister further appealed to the citizens of the state to take the issue of protection and preservation of catchment areas or else the problems of tapping of sufficient water for potable water supply would be facing problems in several parts including the rural and urban areas.
