De-addiction and rehabilitation centre inaugurated, Kaso appealed to work against the deadly drug for a healthy society

CHIMPU, JUNE 25 ; The Itanagar local MLA Techi Kaso on Saturday has appealed to all sections of society to extend cooperation and support in the fight against the deadly drug which has been damaging the health of the youths and society.

Addressing a public function while inaugurating a De-addiction and rehabilitation centre behind VKV School, Chimpu established by a joint initiative of Parivartan Trust and Dopum Abu Tayang society represented by Yorum Tari. Kaso said that the society has been badly affected by this drug menace and various forms of drug and alcohol etc. the precious life of our youths are being damaged day by day and it is also affecting the economic damage with physical, mental and financial damage to family and society. It is happy to say that the state police and other organizations are already engaged but it is not enough and there is lots to be done and without the involvement of all organizations, NGOs and community participation we may lose the precious and dedicated life of our youth who are our future. Said Kaso.

Due to the change of time and emergence of advanced technology we should not leave our childrens to live in isolation and always away but check the  growth and hobbits are good as he does his daily activities normally and usually for the required works and does not react in different ways. He said.

Taking care and managing the drug addicts and addicts of various categories is a challenging task but managing the centre is a major headache and I hope the work started today should not be stopped and the people who are attached with the center should continue to cooperate with the noble job which is social work for humanity. Kaso said.

The people of state are innocent and we should always ensure that our children are not involved in bad habits and get addicted to drugs and also involved in crimes with bad elements. He said.

We should not see that the youth involved in drug addiction is a tribal or non tribal but they should help the police and also inform the people who are associated with such de-addiction centres for correction before it is too late. Kaso added.

He appealed to all sections of society including the NGOs to work with a dedication for the correction and try to help the administration and police in the fight against the deadly drug from the society.  He also asked the authority of the de-addiction centre to ensure safety and security of inmates including the facilities so the inmates can come out of addiction and lead a happy life again.

Kaso also assured to take up the road leading to the colony.

Social justice empowerment and Tribal Affairs Director Yumlam Kaha attending the function as guest of honour said there is an acute shortage of such de-addiction centres and drug de-addiction homes are urgently required as the cases of drug-addiction have been rapidly increasing and it is in an alarming situation . We all need to act with a sincere effort before it is too late. He said.

Few private NGOs are running de-addiction centres and with this centre the bed capacity may rise to 70 in the capital and it may increase in time to come. Such centres are simultaneously required for giving treatment to the addicted to overcome and help the addicted person to lead a happy life.

All facilities and matters of safety and security and other needs this has to be taken into consideration before starting with the activities, however the inmates vary from case to case depending on the addicted person. He said.

There are several schemes in the department of social justice and empowerment and other departments under the government of India there are formalities for registration and getting all support from the ministry in such work of humanity. He asked the centre authority to maintain all records properly and maintain the system properly and also get enrolled in the ministry portal and apply through proper channels to avail the grant and aid and support from the ministry. He assured his support for proper functioning of the centre.

Capital SP Jimmy Chiram who was special guest has elaborated the drug menace and waging of war by state police to fight against the drug. The SP also informs the public about the police action against drugs and the fight against the drug cases in the capital complex.

He appeals to all sections of society to inform any cases of drug addiction in their colony/sector and the capital police is ready to extend all possible help but the general public should also extend their helping hands all the time in fights against the drug from the society.

Dopum Abu Tayang society, Chairman Yorum Tari inform the gathering that initially we are starting a humble beginning and as of now we have facilities arranged for 12 person and if it goes well the beds occupancy may be increase and if everything goes well we may take it to 50 bedded and even to 100 bedded.

Parivartan Trust Director Dr Hamid Dabholkar said that the NGOs is already been working in the said field for the last 30 years and has its centre at Tezpur and the centre at Chimpu will be provided all necessary technology and facilities in treatment of the inmates.

This de-addiction and rehabilitation center will have facilities for management of drug dependence and alcohol dependence. It will be staffed with psychiatrists, psychiatric nurses, psychiatric social workers, counselors and peer educators.

The services of withdrawal management, craving management, relapse prevention, family counseling, music and yoga will also be provided.

Dilip Gaonkar, Nilesh Mohite and Purna Pawe will be the Incharge of the services. Director Dr Hamid Dabholkar added.

IMC Corporator Techi Mema, Yukar Yaro, Tai Yakia, Chimpu PS OC Melia Mibang, Dr. Sudipto Chatterjee, senior psychiatrist Parivartan,,

local public leaders, senior citizens among others were present on the occasion.
