ABSU threatens to call for 24-hr Pasighat bandh seeking fulfilment of their demands in 10 days

ITANAGAR, Jan 07: The All Bogong Students’ Union (ABSU) on Saturday threatened to call for a 24-hour Pasighat dusk-to-dawn bandh if the State government fails to fulfil its charter of demands within 10 days.

Talking to media persons in Arunachal Press Club (APC) here today, ABSU general secretary Gombo Tamin informed that despite submitting several memorandums to the incumbent East Siang Deputy Commissioner Tayi Taggu on their charter of demands on several genuine issues of the public, no action has been initiated till date.

He said the “lackadaisical attitude” towards the demands of the union has compelled them to demand for immediate transfer of the DC.

To pressurise the district administration and the State government regarding their charter of demands, the ABSU on December 22 had called for a 12-hour Pasighat bandh which passed off successfully.

“Our democratic movement is for the greater interest of the general public and East Siang district in general,” Tamin said.

“Our major demands include immediate commencement of the Arunachal University (Pasighat), immediate restoration of Mirmir Char-Ali to Balek road & Medical Char-ali to Napit road, early completion of Sibo-Koring Bridge & Balek School playground, immediate solution for erratic electricity supply, and eviction against illegal land encroachment,” he said.

Encroachment is a major issue which is also affecting the Pasighat, he said.

“NOCs are being issued by the department concerned and based on the NOCs, several permanent infrastructures are being constructed and the administration is keeping mum which is a matter of great concern, but when we approached the DC, no action has been taken up so far. So, it is better that he should be transferred and any preferable officer may be posted at Pasighat in his place,” Tamin said.

When contacted, Deputy Commissioner Taye Taggu, who is in Delhi for training purposes, said, “Anyone can come to me for any issue and I will naturally discuss the issue. If possible, issues are examined and taken up for further action. No NOC has been issued by me for getting any land allotment; rather such issues have not come to me or else I would have discussed with anyone.”

Informing that widening of road is in progress at the mentioned areas, the DC informed that many illegal encroachers have been evicted and more evictions would be carried out.“However, there are certain demands which are of course important which can only be addressed by the department concerned and the State government,” the DC added.
