9 Govt quarters evicted to clear space for construction of multi layer car parking facility for Naharlagun township.

NAHARLAGUN, JULY 9 : Nine government quarter were evicted on Sunday by Itanagar Deputy commissioner cum district magistrate at E Sector area in front of Rajiv Gandhi stadium to clear space for construction of multi story car parking facility by Smart city.

Speaking to media, DC Talo Potom said that “ a multi layer car parking facility project has to be constructed by smart city for Naharlagun township which would be much beneficial for the commuters and vehicle owners”. The smart city was trying and looking for land for the said purpose for last one years and this place which is adjacent to the national highway and under construction four lane roads. He said.

These occupants of these government quarters were offered alternate accommodation but instead they went to court of law and filed litigation. They did not get relief as the project is of public importance even the project delayed. He said.

Encroachment is a big issue in the capital complex and the car parking issue is also an important issue and to start the project evection was necessary which is being carried out. Sunday being holiday and finding less traffic the eviction was done. Said Deputy Commissioner Potom.

With regards to the government quarter encroachment issue, Potom said that encroachment has become a menace and we have already initiated the eviction drive and soon the eviction drive right form H sector in Itanagar will takes place as stated earlier. He said.

The team of engineers and others has already arrive to carry soil testing and after that the smart city project mission may start with their works.

It is to mention that the Project design, built operate and maintain for five years “ Car parking facility at Itanagar capital region under smart city mission” is being constructed at an estimate cost of Rs. 19.8 Crore with an stipulated period of 12 month. It would be a manual type with a steel structure of (G=2) design building to accommodate 147 cars and 50 two wheelers. As per information tender works has also been done and once the capital administration had over the land to Smart city project they may start with their works.  

More than 53 hawkers were also displaced and they loss their place of daily business of selling clothes and vegetables.
