WORLD LITERACY DAY CELEBRATED AT PUMAO VILL

In October 1966 when UNESCO declared 8 September as International Literacy Day to remove worldwide issues of illiteracy. The main purpose was not only to combat illiteracy but also to use it as a tool to empower individuals as well as the whole community. As per reports, literacy rate in Arunachal Pradesh is 65.38 percent as per latest population census. Of that, male literacy stands at 72.55 percent while female literacy is at 57.70 percent only.

With the aim of generating awareness and promote literacy among the youth of Pumao vill on 08 Sept 23,Assam Rifles in conjunction with Government Upper Primary School, Pumao organised various events including Quiz competition, Essay Writing Competition, Drawing Competition.

  All the competitions were followed by a cultural Program by school children, in which they perform a skit with the theme *Each One Teach One*. Pumao camp cdr with his speech, motivated students for doing well in life with education as their base. The cultural event was graced by *Mr Banwang Losu* who himself is a literary hero for Wancho Tribe, as he has formulated script for Wancho Language, his speech implied on the of education and significance of staying true to one's roots. The event was concluded with felicitating of Guests and Prize winner followed by High Tea. 

   The vill authority, student union and school staff expressed gratitude towards Assam Rifles for organising such an event and for always motivating youth of the vill for doing better in life.
