SRFTI, Kolkata team called on RGU VC

Itanagar, A high level team from Satyajit Ray Film & Television Institute (SRFTI) delegation led by the Registrar of SRFTI, Kolkata Dr. Sushrut Sharma and two faculty members from SRFTI, an Academic Institution of Ministry of I & B, Govt. of India, Kolkata had called on to the Vice-Chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi University today to brief on the establishment of a new Film Institute in the state at Jote under Sangdupota circle near Itanagar in the name and style of North East Film & Television Institute (NEFTI) at the Rono Hills office of the Vice-Chancellor. Dr. Sharma informed that the central govt. in collaboration with the state government is all set to start the academic programmes in the new institute from August 2022 in the state offering three bachelor level programmes with RGU’s affiliation.

The Vice-Chancellor of RGU Prof. Saket Kushwaha while giving audience to the delegation appreciated the move of both the central and the state government and advised the team to work in line of improving the linkages holistically for mutual growth benefiting each other and for overall growth of media education system in the state. Pro-Vice-Chancellor of RGU Prof. Amitava Mitra briefed the team about the technicalities involved in such ventures and said that the state has huge potential in this field of media studies. 

Registrar of RGU Dr. N.T. Rikam spoke about the role of the university in shaping colleges producing human resources in the state through its academic contributions and administration, while Joint Registrar of RGU Dr. David Pertin briefed the visitors about the major functioning and administration system of RGU vis-à-vis affiliated colleges. He further informed that the institute (NEFTI) after completion of all affiliation related formalities will start offering bachelors courses in Cinema and Digital Media, Animation Cinema and in Screen Acting from August, 2022 with the Prime Minister of India launching the courses at Jote campus. 

The institute will be initially supported by the faculty members from three cognate departments of RGU i.e. Dept of Mass Communication, Dept. of Electronics & Communication and Dept. of Fine Arts & Music. Among others Prof. RC Parida, the Director IQAC of RGU and Prof. Pankaj Seal and Prof. Prasenjit Ghosh from SRFTI, Kolkata attended the meeting.
