Administration goes tough on liquor shops, bear bars during business hours.

Itanagar, May 10: The Deputy Commissioner Itanagar Capital complex Talo Potom has directed the Excise Superintendent, Excise Inspector and enforcement officers to strictly maintain the guidelines of opening and closing of Wine shops and Beer Bar in the entire capital complex.

Speaking to media after a marathon meeting of Excise superintendent, Excise Inspector and Enforcement officers of capital complex on Tuesday  DC Potom said that there has been several complaints from the public and recommendation and representation from the wine shop owners association and Beer bar association with regards to opening and closing of Wine shops and Beer Bar in the capital complex and we have discussed all the issued related to the Wines shops and Beers with the officers. DC said.

We discussed on rationalization of Wine shop, Beer Bar, Bonded Beer House etc, joint raid by district administration and Tax & Excise, joint site inspection of the new application by the administration and department, functioning of wine shop and Beer Bar on Right of Way (RoW), timing and closing of Wine shop and Beer, declaration of dry day in view of the AAPSU election. Functioning of wine shop nearby religious institution and educational institutions. He said.

As per information there are 169 Wine shop, 43 Beer Bar, 3 wholesale and 3 bonds, in Naharlagun there 127 wine shops, 17 Beer bar, 6 wholesale, 7 Bonds, one bottling plant and one beer factory and accordingly there are 29 wine shop and few Beer Bar, wholesale and Bond accordingly. He Said.

Even in spite of the existence of huge numbers of wine shops and beer bars it has been observed and several complaints have been received that people are drinking alcohol and beer on roadside somewhere  in the capital complex and action will be initiated. He said.

In view of representation and application the administration has regulated the timing upto 9 PM for Wine shop and 11 PM for Beer Bar so beyond the permitted timing no wine shop and beer bar will be allowed to function and strict direction has been issued to regulate and take legal action and even to seal the premises. He said.

Several small shops and pan gumti selling alcohol and beer are also illegal and action will also be initiated against them. He said.

We have also received complaints about the loud music system by the beer bars so it is requested of all the Beer bar owners to maintain discipline or else action will be imitated against the person responsible for the same and even legal action against the respective bar. DC added.

It is our capital complex and it is the responsibility of each and every person to shoulder hands to each other and always cooperate the administration and abide by rule and regulation so that we can be able to make the Itanagar a beautiful city to live in peace and feel safe and secure and a clean, hygiene and a developed capital. DC further said. 

convened a meeting with the Officers of Tax and Excise department  to discuss various issues pertaining to the department  like Wineshops, Beer Bars, Bonded WareHouse etc. 

The DC said it is important to regulate the functioning of Wineshops, beer bars and bonded warehouse and to check whether these are functioning in accordance with  the guidelines especially those wine shops and bars along the Highways and near educational institutions.

He said regular raids should be carried out jointly by District Administration and Tax and Excise to check illegal selling of IMFL especially in Ghumties etc. and that the timing for opening of wine shops and bars are followed in letter in spirit.
