The Bailey bridge over Kurung River in dilapidated condition,  heavy vehicles above 15 tons restricted

ITANAGAR, The bailey bridge over Kurung river is stated to be in dilapidated condition and as per inspection team recently conducted said that it is a weak bridge and plying of heavy vehicles has been restricted from Tuesday onwards till an alternate and a new bridge is launched. DC said that on November 1 Monday a meeting was held at DC office wherein Koloriang ZPM, HoOs and COs of Indian Army, ITBP, SIB, SB, BRO etc. relating to launching of New Bailey Bridge over Kurung River by dismantling the old existing Bridge and several other issue relating to traffic movement were discussed. An advisory was also issued but later minor modification has been made in the advisory in view of movement of traffic in the district on Trans Arunachal Highway. DC said.

The present condition of existing Bailey bridge over Kurung River and assumed it in dilapidated condition as so report submitted by GRSE team to be replaced immediately by launching new Bailey bridge as soon as possible without further delay and road closure will be required. He said.

To ensure GRSE team to take proper first hand field study of the Bailey bridge before commencing of the road closure is taken place and also an alternative route in the form of suspension bridge near Kurung Bridge to be exercised on priority and PMGSY road from Rengchi via Pagba to Koloriang to be renovated to provide plying of light motor vehicle on emergency ground. DC said.

The district administration has issued an advisory for restriction of movement of vehicle having load more than 15 tones, police personnel has been deployed to stop all such vehicles having weight more than 15 tonnes over Kurung Bridge before commencement of road closure takes place. He said.

All the department has been asked to take precautionary measures for stocking of essential items before the road closure takes place, he said.

DC further appeal the commuters of Kurung Kumey District especially to the Publics, PR Leaders HoOs, OCs of Indian Army, ITBP, BRO, SIB, SB, Local Contractors, Business Communities, and Truckers etc to avoid undertaking heavy load machineries/goods that “BAILEY BRIDGE” at Chainage 128+423 (Kurung Bridge) as per request of expert GRSE team of NHIDCL. 

The Deputy Commissioner further advice to all commuters’ especially heavy plying vehicles to refrain from carrying goods not exceeding 15 tonnes weight and maintain one vehicle at one time movement over the bridge for convenience and safety. Non-adherence to comply with this Notice shall attract stringent action as per law.
