Assam Rifles Organizes Medical Camp at Pongkong Village to Provide Healthcare to Residents

Pongkong, 16 July: In a commendable effort to assist individuals suffering from common ailments, the Khonsa Battalion Assam Rifles, in collaboration with the Primary Health Centre (PHC) Lazu, organized a medical camp for the residents of Pongkong village on 16th July 2023.

With the support of medical authorities, a general Outpatient Department (OPD) was established within the village. Doctors and nurses from PHC Lazu dedicated their services to tending to the ill. The medical camp, jointly conducted by the Khonsa Battalion Assam Rifles and PHC Lazu, successfully benefited a total of 117 patients.

In addition to providing medical assistance, the camp aimed to raise awareness among the villagers regarding the spread of seasonal diseases. Various measures to mitigate these diseases were explained, and the community was urged to consume boiled water for drinking purposes, emphasizing the importance of safe drinking water.

The significance of this medical camp lies in its provision of healthcare services to a region that lacks access to medical facilities. Tragically, Pongkong witnessed the unfortunate deaths of 13 children during the monsoon season last year, suspected to be caused by waterborne diseases. The medical camp sought to prevent any possibility of a similar incident by implementing comprehensive measures.

The villagers of Pongkong expressed their gratitude to the Assam Rifles for their thoughtful initiative, which addresses the healthcare needs of the impoverished patients in the remote village. This collaborative effort between the Khonsa Battalion Assam Rifles and PHC Lazu is a testament to their commitment to the welfare of the community.
