Itanagar, October 15: Lone Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) from Arunachal Pradesh, Nabam Rebia met with Dharmananda Sarangi, Director General (Road Development) of the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MORTH), today at Transport Bhavan, New Delhi, to address the status of ongoing road projects in Arunachal Pradesh. Rebia focused on the delays in the 4-laning of the Itanagar to Banderdewa section of NH-415 (KM 40/430 to KM 51/735, Package-B) and called for immediate action against the contractor responsible for the lagging work.

Rebia’s concerns follow his inspection of Package-B on October 7, 2024. During a media interaction after the inspection, Rebia voiced his dissatisfaction, stating, “It’s not just myself who is unhappy with the work progress. The way this project is being handled is a matter of great concern, and I am not at all satisfied.” He noted that public frustration is growing, with social media and other platforms flooded with demands for timely construction and repairs to the four-lane road.

Following the inspection, Rebia also met with Nani Robin, Chief Engineer (Highway), to discuss the delays in Package-B’s construction. During the meeting, Rebia stressed the need for the Highway Department to take firm action against the executing agency to prevent further delays.

During today’s meeting with the MORTH Director General, Rebia emphasized that the public’s patience is wearing thin and urged the Ministry to act swiftly. In response, Director General Sarangi assured Rebia that appropriate action would be taken by the end of November 2024, with visible improvements expected by that time.

Rebia also cautioned the Ministry to avoid similar delays in the proposed Frontier Road Project in Arunachal Pradesh, stressing the importance of accountability and timely execution of infrastructure projects.
