Public and police carry out joint patrolling in IG Park on daily nights

ITANAGAR, JULY 24 : Joint patrolling is being carried out every night inside the premises of Indira Gandhi Park by the police and the concerned residents living near the park amid a rise in the cases of snatching, drug use, vehicle thefts inside the park premises.

Leading the patrol, Sub Inspector (Duty Officer), Kenter Tacha said that joint patrolling is being done to secure the only amusement park in the state capital for the public.

” There has been a sudden increase in the consumption of drugs and sale of banned drugs in ICR.  The joint patrolling is part of the order of the SP of the ICR , Jimmy Chiram to curb drugs peddling, vehicle theft and snatching cases,” he informed.

Expressing serious concern over the excessive use of banned drugs among the youth, the duty officer asked the parents to spend time with their children, monitor the activities of their children and make them aware of the ill effects of drug usage regularly.

The officer, citing testimonials of several drug addicts caught earlier, said that in most cases addicts say that when they become addicted and are unable to buy drugs, they resort to stealing and are also involved in criminal activities which may lead to law and order issues in some cases.

A resident of ward number 10, Ward Member Dari Sojik who accompanied and led the patrolling party, said that after several complaints of vehicle theft, drug abuse and quarrels, mobile snatching , the residents sought help from the police to secure the area.

Meanwhile, Sojik urged the public not to litter the park premises and stop vehicle driving practice inside the park premises as there are designated places to learn driving in the capital region.

It is learned that the joint patrolling underway since the last two weeks may continue until it is ensured that the park is safe for public use and free of anti Social elements.
