The breakthrough occurred on December 20th when intelligence suggested that the prime suspect, Shri Rajiv Sonar, was transporting a stolen Bolero pick-up from Tirap District through Dibrugarh, Assam, intending to sell it in Taraso under Balijan Police Station jurisdiction. Prompt action led to the arrest of Sonar and the recovery of the recently stolen vehicle.
