Highway Chief Engineer & officials visited underpass construction and take stock of the work progress

ITANAGAR, Aug 4: The Chief Engineer (CE) PWD Highway S Sumnyan on Wednesday visited the ongoing underpass construction site here at Bank Tinali and reviewed the progress of work. The capital district administration had set August 15 as the deadline to complete the work. However, after reviewing the work, the CE said practically it might not be possible to complete work on August 15.

“Various factors including Covid pandemic and monsoon have delayed the underpass work. Also, a lot of technicalities have gone into the design and planning of this project. We should not rush the work and later put ourselves in trouble,” said Chief Engineer Sumnyan. Further he said the revised target given to the contractor for completion of the underpass is September. “But for the interest of the public we want to complete it before that. We understand the problems faced by the public due to construction of the underpass and will make every effort to complete work within August month,” said CE Highway.

He said a new culvert which came up at the moment is also one of the reasons for delay in completion of work. “This culvert was not part of the original design. It was incorporated at the last moment and this has delayed the progress,” added CE Sumnyan.

Meanwhile executive engineer PWD Highway Nani Tath informed that pre-construction activities have started for package B (Papu Nallah to Nirjuli) and C (Nirjuli to Naharlagun).
