High spate flowing of Lohit River, affected families shifted to relief camp

TEZU, 17 May: In view of increscent rain for the last several days, Lohit River is flowing in high spate and has been posing serious threat which is closely flowing nearby localities especially Machuwa (Fisherman)  camp, Tezu Khola, Jhalukbari and 32 miles area. The River is also eroding its bank. 

The District Disaster Management Office (DDMO) has also issued an Alert Advisory to the public residing close to the bank of the River not to venture in the River sites or any other vulnerable pockets for fishing or any other activities. “The department has been maintaining strict vigil and is ready to face any eventuality of persons getting isolated in the flood can be rescued. For any assistance or evacuation of persons trapped in the flood may contact 9436049782”, adds the Advisory.

Meanwhile, the 600 Meters boulder caging built by the Water Resource Department to protect the Township from threat of Lohit River was already washed out in the last two years and thereafter creating more panic.

Karikho Kri Local MLA also placed a memorandum for immediate scheme to the recently visited DCM Chowna Mein and Mama Natung WRD Minister at the township to shield the River from inundating in the township.

When contacted by Deputy Commissioner Lohit Marge Sora said that the District Disaster Management Office has rescued and shifted several families residing nearby Lohit River and its inundation in some pockets. Over 30 (Thirty) families are set free and rehabilitated temporarily at Govt. Primary School Tezu Kholla relief camp. Other five more families are given safe shelter by the Govt. Upper Primary School Tezu No – III. Adequate ration and other essential services are being extended by the DDMO”, informs the DC. He also informed that there is no loss of life till the last input received.
