First Congress president of Arunachal Obyak Ering passes away at 88

PASIGHAT, May 08: Prominent social worker and the first Congress president of Arunachal Pradesh, Obyak Ering passed away on Sunday at his residence.  

He was 88 years old.

Obyak Ering was currently the president of Pasighat Market Association. 

Ering is known for his immense contribution to socio-cultural development of Adi society in particular, and his deep attachment to the people of all walks of life of the centurion town, Pasighat.

He is survived by two sons, four daughters and many grandchildren.

He was the brother of former Union Deputy Minister for Agriculture, late Daying Ering. 

Obyak served as the secretary of Bogum Bokang and was associated with various social organizations to serve the humanity.

According to his elder son Gagam Ering,  Obyak Ering was born in 1933 in Roing Village, Pasighat, East Siang district.

Obyak was the son of Padi Ering (father) and Susok Ering (mother).

Pasighat West MLA and former Union Minister Ninong Ering said, “All the Ering families are deeply saddened by the demise of Obyak Ering. After the demise of my father Dr Daying Ering, we were all looked after by uncle Obyakji. Again we have become orphans. May his soul rest in peace.”

Pasighat East MLA Kaling Moyong in his message stated, “I am deeply sorry to hear about the passing of our loved one. Words are hard to find when expressing my condolences. A person that departs from this earth never truly leaves, for they are still alive in our hearts and in our memories, they live on. In this sorrowful time, I extend my heartfelt condolences. May his soul rest in peace.”

Mebo MLA Lombo Tayengin in his condolence message said, “May the love and mercy of the lord be bestowed upon the Ering family during this unfortunate time.”

“Obyakji taught me all the value of doing things the right way and to build long lasting relationships with the common masses. I know he will always be with me, guiding my path, showing the ways to succeed. My heart and prayers go out to the family members. My sincere condolences.”

East Siang Deputy Commissioner Tayi Taggu in his brief message stated, “Obyakji was many things to many people across the district and beyond. He embodied the true spirit of humanity through his many impactful endeavours.”

“Everyone who ever came into contact with him over the years knows just how special a person he was. Our hearts are filled with sorrow upon hearing the news. The loss of someone dear to us is never easy, please accept my deepest condolence,” Taggu said in the condolence message.Pasighat Market Association secretary Mingge Tasung also condoled the Ering’s demise and informed that “Obyakji’s demise has been mourned by the Pasighat Market Association, Chamber of Commerce and several organizations”.
