Drinking water supply to state capital, Tezu and Bomdila discussed, PHED Minister assured to take up the issue with a long term plan

ITANAGAR, MARCH 14 : The emerging scarcity drinking water supply scarcity in state capital Itanagar, Tezu in Lohit district and Bomdila in West Kameng district has been raised by the concern MLA of the respective assembly constituency on the floor of the 8th session of the ninth assembly during question hour on Monday.

Raising the water supply problem in twin city of capital complex, the Itanagar local MLA Techi Kaso said that during year 2019-20 a proposal of 286 crore was proposed and no fund was given, the capital city is having a population of around 2 lakhs with floating population and everyone need water. Life cannot survive without water and the proposal which was proposed needs to be considered in the greater interest of the general public. Kaso said.

It was mentioned that a sum of Rs. 30 crore was kept for the purpose and wanted to know why the fund proposed was not released and appeal the house on behalf of all the MLA for consideration of the water supply scheme of the capital complex. Kaso added.

Tezu MLA Karikho Kri in his question on water supply problem of Tezu township said that Tezu, one of the oldest townships of state and the district headquarter of Lohit district, is facing water supply problems. At present the Tezu township is receiving 5.89 MLD and short of around 2 MLD. The township has a vast population of around 23 thousand and a floating population of nearby district and catchment area. Apart from that several infrastructure is also coming up like airports, engineering colleges and others will also lead to more problems. The problems are being temporarily met up with a water tanker which is incurring a huge money and problem is not being resolved and  urged upon the house to consider the problem before too late. 

The Dirang MLA Phurpa Tsering in his supplementary question also raised the water supply problem of Bomdila township township and said the people of Bomdila township are equally facing the water supply problems. The denizens have even time and again asked for sufficient drinking water supply and even threatened us to make it an election issue. Tsering further urged upon the house to take up the upcoming water crisis on priority so that the crisis does not hit the population.   

Replying to the question raised by three MLA Techi Kaso, Phurpa Tsering and K Kri, the PHED Minister Wangki Lowang said that the PHED department is also very serious on the matter, we are making a vision plan for next 10 years, 20 years in view of growing population. He said.

The outgoing two years have hit hard and every scheme has been affected. We are taking up these schemes again with the finance and planning department. adding that the new scheme from GOI is expected to come under urban JJM and hope that we can take up the water supply scheme on top priority and the problems are shortened in phase manner and successfully implemented. PHED Minister added.
