District Level Coordination Meeting on “COTPA” Held at Khonsa

Khonsa, July 12: A District Level coordination meeting was organized by the District NCD Cell Tirap to address the effective implementation of the “Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA)” in the district. The meeting, held at Khonsa, was attended by prominent officials and key stakeholders.

Presided over by ADC H/Q Hakresha Kri, the meeting saw the participation of the District Medical Officer, heads of various departments, principals and headmasters from schools in Khonsa Town, as well as the President of Khonsa Bazaar. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss strategies and initiatives aimed at curbing tobacco usage and promoting a healthier environment.

Several important points were raised and discussed during the program. Firstly, all department heads were requested to declare their premises as tobacco-free zones. This step aims to set an example for others and promote a healthier working environment throughout the district.

Secondly, it was decided to declare both public and private schools as tobacco-free educational institutions. This move aims to create a safe and healthy learning environment for students, free from the harmful effects of tobacco. By implementing this measure, the district aims to safeguard the well-being of the younger generation.

To ensure the effective enforcement of tobacco control measures, dedicated No Tobacco Enforcement Squad teams were formed. These teams will conduct comprehensive drives across the district, actively working towards curbing tobacco usage and enforcing the provisions of the COTPA Act.

Additionally, the meeting emphasized the importance of accountability and strict adherence to the law. In order to maintain the success of the implemented measures, fines will be imposed on offenders found violating the COTPA Act. This step highlights the district’s commitment to enforcing tobacco control regulations and promoting a healthier community.
