ITANAGAR, SEP 22: Taking cognizance on social media viral case of alleged compromised food quality that served to a consumer identified as Tadar Kaming at Mughal Garden restaurant at Niti Vihar Itanagar on 7th September 2021, the Consumer Rights Organisation (CRO) Arunachal Pradesh on Wednesday informed that CRO had lodged an FIR against the restaurant manager for violating Food Safety and Standards (FSS Act) and consumer rights act. He appealed to the consumers to update themselves before purchase of any products from the market.
In a press conference held here at Arunachal Press Club today CRO-AP state unit President Achu Bagang informed that CRO is committed to work for food safety and consumer rights besides creating awareness on consumer rights in the state.
Referring to the Mughal Garden restaurant incident, Bagang continued that CRO had received a complaint letter from one Kaming Tadar on 8th September claiming that the restaurant had served him cold and junk food resulting in his food poisoning.
On 9th September, the CRO took the matter to a designated food safety officer to investigate the matter and subsequently, it served show cause notice to Mughal Garden restaurant for clarification, CRO president added.
“On the basis of the CRO show cause notice to Mughal Garden, the Specific Food Safety department had imposed Rs. 5000 against the restaurant under FSS Act” he informed, adding, on 13 September an FIR was lodged with Niti Vihar police station against the manager and case was registered under section 273/336/337/34 IPC, and matter is under investigation.
Bagang further appealed to the people of Arunachal Pradesh to report such cases to the CRO AP and the concerned department and also the consumers need to know about the product they are buying and they should get the cashmere of the product from where they are purchasing.
