Awareness campaign on Abusive substance held

Tawang, An awareness campaign on Abusive substances under the banner of “War against drugs” was organized by Women welfare association in collaboration with District tobacco control cell,Tawang and ATDSU at Govt Town secondary school,Tawang and Govt middle school , khremethang. The programme was graced by Tsering lhamu, Chairperson WWA. Dr Sangey thinley, District programme officer(National tobacco control programme) was present as a resource person. He highlighted in length about the harmful effects of abusive substances on human health like tobacco, alcohol, Cannabis (Bhang) and other psychoactive substances. He informed that the Govt of India has notified all the schools that they must declare Tobacco free educational institutions (ToEFI) and comply with the CoTPA Act,2003. He appreciated WWA,Tawang for taking up a much needed such awareness campaign. He also appealed to the students to stay away from such abusive substances and adopt a healthy lifestyle. The Other speakers included members from WWA and ATDSU student leaders. Dr S.Tsomu, Asst professor (DKGC) talked about the social and economic impact of abusive substances on society. Sonam jangmu, Advocate, highlighted the legal consequences of drug abuse.
