Attendant killed by tigress in State Biological Park

ITANAGAR, May 18: Pouluch Karmakar, an animal attendant of State Biological Park (Zoo) here was killed by a tiger inside its corral today.

The SDPO, OC and DEDO SI N Nishant and a group of police personnel  accompanied by EAC N Teji rushed to the spot on receiving information of the incident from Raya Flago, curator of the zoo at around 4 pm.

The preliminary enquiry revealed that the deceased Poluch Karmakar had been  serving as animal attendant (contingency staff) for the past 8 years. He went inside the enclosure of the tiger to clean the water pots and was killed by the tiger.  It is suspected that the cage of the tiger had been kept open during feeding.

The body of Pouluch Karmakar, 35 years, son of late Mohanlal Karmakar, has been taken into custody by police after holding inquest and kept at RKMH morgue for post mortem to be done at TRIHMS, Naharlagun tomorrow.

An UD case will be registered for further investigation into the matter.
