Arunachal Police Arrest Assam Fraudster for Rs. 25 Lakh Cheque Scam

Naharlagun, June 16: The Naharlagun Police successfully apprehended a wanted fraudster, Gopal Ch. Das, from Silchar, Assam, on the intervening night of June 15-16, 2023. The operation was led by SI Niri Rama and Ct Lham Tsering, under the close supervision of OC Naharlagun, Inspector Krishnendu Dev.

Gopal Ch. Das, 52, son of Late Gaurango Das, hailing from Rongpur, Silchar, District-Cachar, Assam, had been evading arrest since 2018. He faced six Non-Bailable Warrants of Arrest (NBWA) issued by the Hon’ble Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Yupia. The warrants were related to CJM Court, Yupia CR No. 101/2018 U/S 138 NI Act, wherein he was accused of defrauding a local contractor by issuing a fraudulent bank cheque amounting to Rs. 25 lakhs, which subsequently bounced.

Despite numerous attempts by the police to capture him, Das managed to remain on the run for nearly six years. The persistent and meticulous efforts of the Naharlagun Police, however, culminated in his arrest in Silchar.

Following his capture, Gopal Ch. Das was produced before the CJM Yupia and has been remanded to custody.

SP Naharlagun, Mihin Gambo, IPS, commended the police team for their dedication and success in apprehending the fugitive, bringing a long-awaited resolution to the case.
