19 labourers missing: 2 person arrested, 1 pistol sized, police lookout one more subcontractor of Bongaigaon, Assam

ITANAGAR, 5 Aug: The Koloriang police arrested one Roham Ali, the subcontractor who had brought 19 labourers upto Damin in Kurung Kumey district on Tuesday for the construction of a road under BRO and later fled away on the pretext of grandmother’s funeral, leaving the workers to their fate and 19 out of 30 labourers fled away on July 5.

As per information Ali is currently in police remand to 5 days police custody in Koloriang. He was produced before the judicial magistrate on Thursday.

Koloriang Police Station OC inspector Gijum Basar informed Arunachal News Live that Ali was arrested from Pasighat in East Siang district this week, where he was working under a local person after fleeing from Koloriang.

The OC also informed that Ali had taken an advance money from the contractor amounting to few lakhs for procuring ration items and others.

One Bengia Tani was also arrested on Tuesday for threatening the labourers before the day of their escape, and one Indian made pistol has been seized by police, the OC said.

Court have granted bail to Tani on Friday and he was admitted in Chera Talo District Hospital as he was tested Covid-19 positive. The police officer said.

The police informed that a case under Sections 420 and 406 has been registered against Ali, while a case under Sections 341 and 506 of the IPC has been registered against Tani.

The police are on the lookout for another subcontractor, Rihajul Haque of Bongaigaon, Assam who is absconding.

From 19 missing labourers, 10 were found alive and rescued from various jungle area out of which 5 were airlifted by the Airforce helicopter to TRIHMS, Naharlagun who got better medical attention and later were released, however 5 who were later found and  rescued were admited CT district hospital were given medical treatment and later released.  As per information the 10 persons has reached to their back hone in Assam. The dead bodies of five were found in a decomposed condition were after all legal formalities the body were disposed off as per law. and one person was drowned in the Furak river. The remaining three workers are still missing and their whereabouts are not known. He said.

The district administration has called off a search and rescue operation to trace the missing workers on 1 August. The search operation which include officers and officials of kurung kumey district administration, SDRF, local teams, members of main contractors and local people of Damin, Huri and Koloriang area. He informed.

The workers had gone missing on 5 July midnight and report of missing was made on 12th July while case at Koloriang police station was registered on July 13 and search operation began. OC Koloriang G Basar added.
